This past week, I had the great joy of experiencing Stryker High School alum, Jessica Robinson. Ms. Robinson is now 21, and goes to college as an accounting major. We sat down to talk about the Panther's current baseball season, and what follows is a summary of that conversation:
Q: Tell me Jessica, what is your relation to Stryker High School?
A: I'm actually a former student there! I used to play softball for the school. I'm currently 21, and graduated a few years ago but love coming back and watching my old teammates and friends play!
Q: What have you been up to since graduating from Stryker?
A: I am currently a college student, and an accounting major. Even though I'm pretty busy, I try to catch as many softball and baseball games as I can every year.
Q: Did you enjoy your time as a student and as an athlete when you were a Panther?
A: Oh absolutely! Of course it was school, and how fun can that ever be, but there aren't too many complaints I can offer at the moment.
Q: Do you have a favorite memory from your time in school? A: Nothing specific, but my senior season for softball comes to mind. I really really miss that team, and would do anything to see them all again. It wasn't about the games, it was just that we were all extremely close, and very fun. But yeah, I would have to say that.
Q: What do you think of the current baseball season so far?
A: Honestly? Things have not been going well at all. They haven't won a single game, and don't look all that great in the field either. It is a shame, knowing that they could be doing so much better, and just aren't living up to the potential.
Q: Do you think that there is time for the team to turn things around, or at least get away with one win by the end of the season? A: I sure hope so. I don't want to jinx the boys or anything, so I won't say too much about it just in case! But I really do hope they can. I know that they have the ability either way. Q: As an alum, both scholarly, and athletically, is there any advice you would like to give current or future high school students? A: I would say that the only thing you can do is your best. No matter what you think is expected of you, or what people want out of you, as long as you know that you did the best you possibly could have done, that's all anyone could ever ask really.
Q: Well thank you very much for your time, I think that will about do it, unless there is anything else you'd like to add? A: Thank you so much for having me! I enjoyed this very much, and the only thing I have to add is "Go Panthers!"
